Maneth is 14 years old, and is in grade 8 at The Lady Savant Foundation School in Taney village, Choam Sangkea commune, Phnom Sruoch district, Kompong Speu province. There are five members in her family, two parents and three daughters. She is the second child in her family. Her family is poor and owns half a hectare of farmland, which can produce 1000 kg of rice per year. Her mother and father work as rice farmers on their own land, as well as mango pickers, earning 30,000 Riels a day. As the family is very poor, there is not enough money to support her studies. Maneth commonly has to walk to school because her mother or father use the bicycle to go to work. Furthermore, after a long day at school and walking there and back, Maneth needs to help her mother with house work and various chores. Maneth wants to be a doctor when she grows up. She wants to help all the people in her village, and she thinks that the hospital right now is too far. Moreover, she wants to earn money to support her family.

Torn Pisey is 15 years old, and in grade 8 at The Lady Savant Foundation School in Taney village, Choam Sangkea commune, Phnom Sruoch district, Kompong Speu province. There are 6 members in her family, two parents, two sons and two daughters. Torn Pisey is the second child in the family. Her parents are farmers who own one and a half hectares of farmland to grow rice, producing 1-2 tons per year. The family is able to sell some of the rice, earning 500,000 Riel, and the rest is used as food for the family.  For additional income, the family picks mangos when they are not busy, earning 30,000 Riels a day. Torn Pisey is a good student and daughter. She works hard in class, and when she is not studying, she is helping her mother with housework, taking care of her younger siblings or picking mangos to help support the family. In the future she wants to become a Khmer teacher. She wants to share her knowledge and teach the children in her commune about Khmer letters and Khmer stories. Most importantly, she would like to be able to support her family and give them an opportunity to live a better life.

Sreykorb is 14 years old, and in grade 8 at The Lady Savant Foundation School in Taney village, Choam Sangkea commune, Phnom Sruoch district, Kompong Speu province. Sreykorb is the eldest child in the family, with two younger brothers. She lives with her father and brothers because her mother lives and works in Phnom Penh. Her brothers are in grade two and six. Her father works as a mango picker, earning 30,000 Riel per day. Her mother earns $200 a month working in a factory and visits her family twice a month. Sreykorb is a good student and always works hard in class, and when she is home, she continues her hard work, helping her father around the house. In the future, Sreykorb wants to be a teacher so she can help support her family, and provide a better life for them. Additionally, she wants to teach the kids in her village and show them how to lead a good life.

Sokea is 13 years old, and in grade 7 at The Lady Savant Foundation School in Taney village, Choam Sangkea commune, Phnom Sruoch district, Kompong Speu province. There are seven members in her family, including her mother, sisters and brother-in-law’s, and is Sokea is the youngest child in the family. Her mother is a farmer who owns one hectare of farmland. To better support the family, Sokea’s mother also works as a seasonal worker, earning 30,000 Riels a day.  Two of Sokea’s sisters and husbands work in Thailand and send home $100/month. Sokea works hard in school, and continues her hard work when she gets home by helping her mother with housework and chores. In the future Sokea wants to be a teacher so she can share her knowledge with the kids in her village.

Nalen is 13 years old, and is in grade 7 at The Lady Savant Foundation School in Taney village, Choam Sangkea commune, Phnom Sruoch district, Kompong Speu province. There are nine members in the family. Nalen has five brothers, one sister, and he is the fifth child in the family. Her dad works as a construction worker near Phnom Penh, earning $10 a day and visits home once a week. Nalen’s mother is a housewife, staying home and looking after her nine children. The family is very poor and does not own any land of their own. Nalen does not have enough money to buy school supplies for her studies. However, that does not stop her from coming to school and working her hardest. Nalen wants to be a teacher because she wants to share knowledge and education to the students in her community as well as be able to help financially support her family.

Chanlin is 14 years old, and is in grade 7 at The Lady Savant Foundation School in Taney village, Choam Sangkea commune, Phnom Sruoch district, Kompong Speu province. Chanlin has one brother and sister, and is the eldest child in the family. Her parents are farmers, owning one hectare of farmland. The family is able to collect 3 tons of rice per year, which is just enough to provide the family with food for a year. When the farming season is over, Chanlin’s parents work as mango pickers, earning 30,000 Riels a day. Additionally, the family owns one cow to plow their farmland. Chalin gets 500 Riels a day for her studies, and rides her bike to school every day.  Chanlin is a hard worker, and is always a good student in class.  After school, Chanlin is responsible to help her mother with housework, and looking after the land and cow. In the future Chanlin wants to be a Khmer teacher so she can pass on the Khmer history and knowledge to the next generation. Moreover, she wants to earn an income that can better support her family.

Sreypov is 15 years old, and is in grade 7 at The Lady Savant Foundation School School in Taney village, Choam Sangkea commune, Phnom Sruoch district, Kompong Speu province. Sreypov has five brothers and four sisters. She is a youngest child in the family. Sreypov’s parents are getting old and sick now, spending most of their days at home. However, somedays when her parents are feeling well, they are able to help their child in the rice fields. Sreypov’s brothers work at the border of Thailand, and her two sisters work in Phnom Penh as factory workers, all of which send money home every month to support the family. The family owns one hectare of land, used to grow rice and vegetables, and 2 cows and 2 pigs. The family can produce 1 ton of rice every year, that can feed the family. However, as Sreypov’s parents are elderly and ill, Sreypov and her other younger siblings are responsible to care for the farm land, and animals. In the future Sreypov wants to be a nurse because she wants to look after her family and the elderly people of her commune.  Additionally, she wants to help financially support her family and provide them with a better life.

Reaksmey is 13 years old, and is in grade 7 at The Lady Savant Foundation School in Taney village, Choam Sangkea commune, Phnom Sruoch district, Kompong Speu province. Reaksmey is the eldest child in the family, with one younger brother. Her father is a truck driver, earning a salary of $175 a month, and her monther is a factory worker, earning $150 a month. Additionally, Reaksmey’s family owns one hectare of land for growing rice, in which they are able to collect 12 bags of rice for the family to eat a year. Reaksmey is a very hard worker, and a good student. After a long day of studying hard at school, she goes home to help her parents with ho use work. In her free time, she likes to read books and review lessons from school. In the future she wants to become an English Teacher because she loves the English language and she wants to teach the students in her village the importance of the language. Additionally, she wants to help her brother and her parents lead a better and more comfortable life.
